546)Two Tragedies In Opposite Parts Of The World, The Landslide In Hunza,Pakistan And The Earthquake In Port-Au-Prince,Haiti, Galvanize All To Action.

In recent days we have watched two tragedies unfold in distant parts of the world:
1)The fatal landslide in the Hunza Valley, Pakistan, which threatens to flood villages.
2)The devastating earthquake, the first of its kind since 1751, in Haiti, which has caused an untold number of deaths and injuries including many Canadians.

ISMAILI MAIL has covered both tragedies, as follows:

Blogger Stephen Taylor and others have given us important details about the Haitian earthquake, in particular, the Canadian involvement in relief efforts:

US president Barack Obama brought together two former presidents, Presidents Bush and Clinton, in a bipartisan effort to raise money to carry out these relief efforts. Canadian politicians have done the same. The Canadian and US Governments are matching each individual donation dollar for dollar and the message from them is the same: donations of money, cold hard cash, are much preferable to donations of goods: the reputable aid agencies know best how and where to spend the money to extract the maximum value from the donation.

For monetary donations:
